Tulsa immigration lawyer

One does not have to be a completely inundated with politics to understand that immigration is one of the biggest hot button issues in this year’s election. The Oklahoma media has realized this for some time and has been looking for authority figures on immigration law to offer their insight to what is happening and what potentially could happen down the road.

Tulsa immigration law lawyer Lorena Rivas has proven her prowess as being knowledgeable on all immigration law issues so much so the Fry & Elder trial attorney was recently interviewed by Tulsa ABC affiliate KTUL Channel 8 TV.

Rivas, who last month was featured in the Tulsa Business & Legal News, was interviewed by KTUL Channel 8 for a segment on our country’s possible future immigration policy should Republican candidate Donald Trump get elected president. CLICK HERE to watch the clip and read the accompanying story.

Rivas told the KTUL Channel 8 that she has received many more inquiries from local citizens on immigration law issues because much of Trump’s rhetoric has centered on immigration reform. Rivas stated the following in the report:

“I have had more questions about this from the general public or from potential clients who ask me what can I do to make sure I am protected if Donald Trump is elected president and he wants to get rid of any foreigner … I think the reason they come and ask me is because of fear. ”

Why the Need to Consult with a Tulsa Immigration Lawyer?

If you are battling or think you potentially will be battling an immigration law issue, there is a peace of mind that comes with speaking with proven and accomplished Tulsa immigration lawyer. Rivas has experience in numerous immigration law issues including:

  • Asylum
  • Business Immigration

  • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
  • Deportation/Removal Defense
  • Family Immigration

“It’s a lot of work, but it’s been very rewarding,” Barteaux said. “Fortunately for me, Shane held the same position a couple of years before so going in I knew a lot about what the position entailed. I’ve had a lot of good help and great resources.”

While Barteaux has been active with Oklahoma Bar Association, most of his energy and talents are directed into his practice at Fry & Elder which primarily is centered on Tulsa adoptions and guardianships.

Tulsa family law firm

The Tulsa family law firm of Fry & Elder is back in the spotlight – again. The vaunted and iconic law firm and its team of elite trial lawyers have been the subject of eight articles by some of Oklahoma’s most highly-regarded media outlets within the past year alone.

“We’ve always prided ourselves on having a working relationship with our local media,” Fry & Elder partner M. Shane Henry said. “We realize the importance of their job and the hard work they put in to bring about more community awareness and involvement.”

The latest article installation came earlier this week when the Tulsa Business & Legal News – an arm of the Tulsa World – profiled the firm and its expansion into immigration and criminal law, adding additional personal and moving into a new state of the art office. Click HERE to read the article in its entirety.

Lead legal correspondent Ralph Schaefer penned the piece and talked in depth with the firm’s senior partners Robert G “Hap” Fry Jr., and James R. Elder. Much of the article focused on how the dynamics of family law have changed over the years to include aspects of immigration law and criminal law – most notably protective orders.

Said Fry in the article: “We are family lawyers, and with the advent of protective orders and violation of protective orders, you get into criminal law. Once a protective order is filed, the person has to leave right then. Any attempts to contact the spouse — man or woman — is a violation.”

Schaefer is no stranger to the law offices of Fry & Elder. In fact, he has written six of the eight pieces featuring the firm within the past year. Below are the additional articles in which Fry & Elder has been featured.

Tulsa Criminal Defense Attorney Makes Elite List

Tulsa criminal defense attorney

Aaron Bundy

The accolades and honors continue to roll in for Tulsa criminal defense attorney Aaron D. Bundy.

Less than one week after becoming the fourth partner at the elite and prestigious Tulsa law firm of Fry & Elder, Bundy was spotlighted in the Tulsa Business & Legal News.

An arm of the Tulsa World, Bundy made the publication’s The Tulsa 40 list, which is the largest package the Tulsa Business & Legal News annually puts together for its readers. Click HERE to read Bundy’s feature, which appeared in the March 18 print edition.

“I couldn’t begin to guess how many nominations we received,” Tulsa Business & Legal News editor Lesa Jones said. “Aaron was submitted among a ton of other nominations. We reviewed each nomination, and we felt like he was definitely one of the worthy nominations.”

The Tulsa 40 is comprised of 40 different professionals under the age of 40 who have set themselves apart and have already made a difference in the Tulsa community. The peer-nominated honorees come from a variety of fields, including real estate, education, medicine and marketing, along with law.

“It’s a really neat honor,” Bundy said. “To be thought of and included with this talented collection of professionals just really feels great.”

The Tulsa 40 has been a featured package of the Tulsa Business & Legal News for a number of years, but Jones said the publication took last year off after the TB&LN was bought out by BH Media. Jones, however, knew that year off was an aberration based on readership demand.

“It’s by far the biggest package we produce,” Jones said. “It’s just a huge task, and I initially felt it might be too daunting because of the logistics of scheduling all the photos, but so far it’s been my favorite project that I’ve been a part of here as the editor of TB&LN. I was just really impressed by all the nominees.”

Tulsa Criminal Defense Attorney Continues to add to Impressive Resume

At just 35, Bundy has already achieved a lot in the legal industry by any standard. The Tulsa criminal defense attorney, who also focuses much of his practice on family law has an AV® Preeminent Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell® and also has been recognized as a Super Lawyers® Rising Star™ the past three years.

If that weren’t enough, Bundy and fellow Fry & Elder partner M. Shane Henry have become well known throughout the state of Oklahoma’s legal community with their informative, engaging and educational series of Trial Skills Presentations they conduct. Bundy also has co-authored professional articles with Henry that have appeared in the publication of the Oklahoma Bar Association and Tulsa Lawyer Magazine.

Experience the Fry & Elder Difference

As an experienced and accomplished Tulsa criminal defense attorney and family law attorney, Bundy has only helped bolster Fry & Elder’s illustrious reputation at both the state and national level. Fry & Elder has been selected to the U.S. News & World Report’s exclusive list of Best Law Firms from 2014-2016.

Robert G “Hap” Fry Jr., continues to add to his legacy, as he was selected as the Lawyer of the Year for Family Law in Tulsa for 2016 by Best Lawyers®. Additionally, Fry is one of just 19 lawyers in the state of Oklahoma to be a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Fry & Elder trial lawyer T. Luke Barteaux, along with Henry & Bundy, also has been recognized as a Super Lawyers® Rising Star™, while Fry, Henry, Bundy and James R. Elder are AV-rated trial lawyers.

The additions of Katie Egan, Lorena Rivas and Melissa Fell have helped round out and diversify the firm’s team of attorneys and its practice areas. Bundy Becomes Newest Partner at Fry & Elder

Tulsa criminal defense and divorce lawyer

Aaron Bundy

Aaron D. Bundy has been with the Tulsa law firm of Fry & Elder for less than two years, but he has already made a tremendous impression and impact.

Bundy, who holds the coveted AV® Preeminent Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell® and is also recognized as a Super Lawyers® Rising Star™, arguably received his biggest professional honor Tuesday night when the elite and highly-decorated law firm of Fry & Elder honored the Tulsa criminal defense and divorce lawyer as its newest partner.

“Great day for Aaron and for Fry & Elder,” Robert G ‘Hap’ Fry Jr., said. “Aaron has only been with us since April of 2014 so for him to make partner in that short a period just speaks volumes to his talent, work ethic and the commitment he has for our firm. Very few attorneys would be able to achieve what Aaron has done this early in his career.”

Bundy, 35, is the first attorney at Fry & Elder to be recognized as a partner since M. Shane Henry became a partner in 2013. Before Henry, only Fry and James R. Elder were partners at the firm. Bundy’s selection further signifies the growth that Fry & Elder has achieved over the past three years.

The Tulsa law firm, which has made the U.S. News & World Report’s exclusive list of Best Law Firms from 2014-2016, now has eight full-time practicing trial lawyers and attorneys and recently moved to its current state-of-the-art 1630 S. Main Street office location that amasses 5,200 square feet and features 13 offices and two conference rooms.

Tulsa criminal defense and divorce lawyer believes Fry & Elder will continue to grow

While Fry & Elder’s calling card for nearly 40 years has been in its iconic work in high-conflict, high-resolution Tulsa divorce and child custody cases, the firm now actively practices criminal law, immigration law, personal injuries and probates. Much of this shift has had to do with Bundy’s vision, which is further evidenced by his work as both a Tulsa criminal defense and divorce lawyer.

“Family law has been very good to us and to this firm,” Bundy said. “I think we’re always going to be known and regarded as a premier Oklahoma family law firm. That’s probably never going to change. But, at the same time, we have the experience and personal in place here who are eager, able and willing to effectively practice areas outside of family law.

“Shane is trying a case right now in which the death penalty is in play, and Lorena (Rivas) is handling a ton of cases that involve immigration law. We’re actively practicing criminal law and immigration law, along with personal injury and probate cases.”

Bundy also making an impact outside the courtroom

In addition to his courtroom prowess, Bundy has been able to raise the profile of Fry & Elder throughout the state and, to some extent, on a national level through other platforms. Henry and he have become quite well known for their Trial Skills Presentations, which they put on at a number of County Bar Association Meetings, as well as for other paralegals, lawyers, and judges, throughout Oklahoma and beyond. The two AV-rated attorneys currently present on the following topics:

  • Starting Your Trial Off Right: Opening Statements
  • Evidence at Trial
  • Using Social Media Evidence at Trial
  • Advanced Cross Examination
  • Dealing with Speaking Objections
    at Trial
  • Advanced Trial Techniques
  • Hostile Witness & Cross
    Examination

If that weren’t enough, Bundy and Henry have also recently collaborated to co-author multiple articles for both the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Tulsa Lawyer Magazine.

“I think the big thing is Shane and I just want to become better trial lawyers,” Bundy said. “Writing these articles and conducting these trial skills presentations have allowed us to meet a number of people that we might not have met otherwise. It’s neat to be able to hear about their experiences because they’re definitely passing on knowledge to us.”

Experience the Fry & Elder difference

With his new role as partner, Bundy foresees Fry & Elder only building on it storied past. The firm boasts a number of talented, experienced and decorated attorneys, including Fry, who is one of just 19 attorneys in the state of Oklahoma to be a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Fry also was selected by Best Lawyers® as its Lawyer of the Year for Family Law in Tulsa for 2016 and like Bundy, Henry and Elder is an AV-rated attorney.

Fellow Fry & Elder trial lawyer T. Luke Barteaux, along with Henry & Bundy, also has been recognized as a Super Lawyers® Rising Star™.

Rivas is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA), while Katie Egan is licensed to practice in Oklahoma, New York and Connecticut. Mellissa Fell rounds out the staff of attorneys. Her practice focuses on taking a “concierge attorney” approach.

Fry Praises American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers

Dad, Clarke & Badger

Of all the accolades Robert G “Hap” Fry Jr. has garnered during an illustrious career as a prominent Tulsa divorce and child custody attorney, perhaps no honor is held with higher regard than being a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Fry, who has been practicing family law for over 35 years, was recently honored as the Lawyer of the Year for Family Law in Tulsa for 2016 by Best Lawyers® and has been selected as an Oklahoma Super Lawyer every year since 2007. Additionally, he carries an AV Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubble.

Still as esteemed as those honors are, to be a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers is to be considered one of the elite family law practitioners in the country. In fact, there are fewer than 1,700 “Fellows” in the United States.

What Separates a “Fellow” From Other Family Law Attorneys

Founded in 1962, the ultimate purpose of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers is “to provide leadership that promotes the highest degree of professionalism and excellence in the practice of family law.”

The AAML website goes on to say that being a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers means that:

  • “The attorney has demonstrated an active interest and competency in matrimonial law as evidenced by the fulfillment of criteria and standards as established by the AAML™ Board of Examiners and Board of Governors.”
  • “The attorney has substantial experience and is able to handle complex matters relating to custody and support of children, property division and alimony or spousal support.”
  • “The attorney has demonstrated an active interest and competency in matrimonial law as evidenced by the fulfillment of criteria and standards as established by the AAML™ Board of Examiners and Board of Governors.”
  • “The attorney is recognized by the bench and bar as a leading practitioner in the area of matrimonial law.”
  • “The attorney has demonstrated substantial involvement in the matrimonial field and has endeavored to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the cause of matrimonial law.”

Not Just a “Fellow,” but a Difference Maker

As a leading Tulsa divorce and child custody attorney, Fry has been active in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for over 25 years. Fry served as the AAML Oklahoma Chapter President from 2001-2003 and on the AAML National Board from 1992-1993 as the Chairman for the Special Concerns of Children Committee.

“The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers truly is an outstanding organization that has provided me with significant opportunities for personal and professional grown both in and out of the courtroom,” Fry said. “The leadership and resources they provide really are second to none in family law.”

Experience the Fry & Elder Difference

While Fry’s individual practice focuses on a multitude of family law facets including: divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, premarital agreements and property division, the Tulsa law firm of Fry & Elder has grown and expanded its depth of services under Fry’s watchful eye. Fry & Elder has now grown to eight full-time practicing Tulsa trial lawyers and offers services in criminal law, personal injury law, immigration law and probates. The firm has been named as one of the Best Law Firms from 2014-2016 by the U.S. News & World Report. Exercise Caution this Super Bowl (Guest Blog)

Tulsa criminal defense attorneys

The Super Bowl is just a few days away, and while it’s a great day to gather with friends and family to celebrate the final day of football season, the unfortunate reality is that sometimes the fun can be a taken a little too far. Law enforcement will be on the lookout for those that have had too much to drink to drive safely. And while we encourage everyone to use good judgment when assessing your ability to drive safely, if you are stopped for DUI you are entitled to a strong and rigorous defense.

How Can We Defend Your DUI Case?

There are a number of problems that can occur during the course of any DUI arrest. These issues must be understood and identified to present the best and most thorough defense. The following are just a few of the potential defenses that may be used to challenge your DUI charge by Fry & Elder’s Tulsa criminal defense attorneys.

Improper Stop/Arrest:

The United States Constitution prohibits searches and seizures without probable cause. In the context of your DUI case, this means that law enforcement must have a reason to stop you and must establish probable cause before arresting you. If law enforcement has not complied with these constitutional requirements, any evidence they have obtained may be deemed inadmissible and your charges thrown out.

Improper Administration of the Field Sobriety Tests:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has developed guidelines for standardized field sobriety testing. These standardized tests (walk-and-turn, one-leg stand, and horizontal gaze nystagmus) must be administered and assessed according to NHTSA guidelines. If law enforcement does not properly instruct, demonstrate, and assess these standardized tests according to NHTSA guidelines (or, if officers are using non-standardized tests), the improper tests or results must be challenged before trial.

Faulty Breath Tests:

In addition to problems with the stop or field sobriety testing, law enforcement may perform flawed breath or blood testing. Broken or misused equipment, medical conditions, mouth alcohol, and failure to follow proper procedures are just a few of the issues that can affect your blood alcohol content (BAC) reading. Because these results, even if faulty, will used against you by the prosecution, any breath or blood test result must be thoroughly investigated to determine if any improper testing procedures may have inflated your BAC.

Being charged with DUI can carry serious personal, financial, and employment consequences. The experienced  Tulsa criminal defense attorneys at Fry & Elder will work hard to make sure you have the best possible defense to guard against these dramatic consequences.

Tulsa Trial Attorneys’ Work Published

Tulsa trial attorneys

Less than a month after being published in the Oklahoma Bar Journal, Fry & Elder and Tulsa trial attorneys M. Shane Henry and Aaron D. Bundy were back at it again – this time taking their writing prowess and legal expertise to Tulsa Lawyer Magazine, which is the official publication of the Tulsa County Bar Association. Henry and Bundy’s article “OBJECTION: Dealing With Speaking Objections In Trial” appears in this month edition of Tulsa Lawyer Magazine. “We’re by no means professional writers, but we have a lot of experience on legal issues including the use of objections in trial,” Henry said. “One of our goals is to have more of our work published. We really appreciate and want to thank Tulsa Lawyer Magazine for the opportunity.”

Both Henry and Bundy are rising stars in the Tulsa legal community. The two Tulsa trial attorneys are AV® Preeminent Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell®, which is a testament to the fact that a lawyer’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence. Henry and Bundy also have been recognized as Super Lawyers® Rising Stars™.

Tulsa trial attorneys tour the state

While Henry and Bundy’s practices focus on Tulsa family law and criminal law, the two attorneys have become well known throughout the state because of the Trial Skills Presentations they give in front of various Oklahoma County Bar Associations.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to share our experiences and hear others experiences in trial, while being able to represent Fry & Elder in a positive light,” Bundy said. “Professional development and education is always important no matter how many years of practice an attorney has under his or her belt. There’s always something to learn.”

Henry and Bundy’s educational and entertaining presentations focus on the following topics:

  • Starting Your Trial Off Right: Opening Statements
  • Evidence at Trial
  • Using Social Media Evidence at Trial
  • Advanced Cross Examination
  • Dealing with Speaking Objections
    at Trial
  • Advanced Trial Techniques
