Tulsa Child Custody and Divorce Attorneys Offer Father’s Day Tips

Tulsa child custody and divorce attorneys

Whether you are divorced or are in the process of getting a divorce, the holidays can often be rough for dads, and Father’s Day is no exception. With the holiday arriving this weekend, the Tulsa child custody and divorce attorneys at Fry & Elder empathize with the dads out there and would like to offer a few tips to help you get through the day no matter what your situation will be this Father’s Day – kids the whole day, part of the day or not at all.

Have a Positive Attitude

This may sound easy and cheesy all at once, but so much of making it through any trying situation is achieved by having a positive attitude. Try and reflect on what you do have, not what you don’t have. Chances are, there are a lot of other people out there who would like to switch positions with you. If you do have the opportunity to spend part of the day or the entire day with your children, they generally will emulate the attitude you present.

Shift Some of the Attention Off of You and onto Some of the Other Fathers Out There

What better way to spend Father’s Day than with your own dad? While this might not be possible for some dads out there, if your dad has passed on, you could begin the day by writing a letter to him or doing something that you both enjoyed doing together. If you have brothers, uncles or any good friends out there who are dads, take a minute to wish them a happy Father’s Day.

Do Something Nice for Yourself

Remember, this is your day so there’s no reason not to treat yourself right. This might mean splurging on that grill or set of golf clubs you’ve been eyeing for a while or it might mean taking part of the day to do something you enjoy – like playing golf or going fishing.

Have a Plan for the Day

This is particularly important if you will be spending any amount of time with your children this Father’s Day. Think of some things to do together that would be fun. This might mean taking a bike ride and having a picnic, playing catch or going swimming and then having a barbecue. No matter what you end up deciding on, your kids and you will enjoy the time together and make some memories together along the way. If you are unable to see your kids then try and schedule a time to Skype of FaceTime with them and make plans to keep yourself busy. This might mean hanging out with some friends or going on weekend / daylong getaway.
