Kathy Keener has proven to be a valuable resource since joining the Tulsa family law firm of Fry & Elder in early 2016 as a paralegal. With over 17 years of legal experience, Kathy’s forte at Fry & Elder has been in the arena of adoptions, divorce and paternities. She serves as the lead paralegal for Tulsa adoption attorney Luke Barteaux, a Super Lawyers® Rising Star.
“I love adoptions because everyone is happy with the end results and a lot of pictures get taken of what is a very memorable and special moment,” Kathy said. “Over the years, I have done over 100 adoptions and Luke (Barteaux) is a very skilled adoption and family law attorney.”
Kathy graduated from Northeastern State University with a degree in Criminal Justice/ Paralegal Emphasis. Prior to her foray into family law and becoming a paralegal, Kathy had been in the horse industry – specifically with hunter jumpers. Due to the extensive travel involved, Kathy had a change of heart and took a part-time job at a law firm. It was during this stint that Kathy found her calling as an advocate for family law and her clients.
“The thing that makes me so good at my job is I have a very sympathetic ear,” Kathy said. “People going through the traumatic experience of a divorce just want someone to listen to their problems, and I am good at that. I like to be able to help people out in times of need.”
When Kathy is not working away at Fry & Elder, you likely will find her hanging out with her friends, dogs or reading a good book. She also is immensely proud of her daughter, who has her own business and lives in California.
