The hallmark of any good attorney is communication skills. Decherd Thomas embodies this trait as an experienced trial attorney and Fry & Elder is proud to have him as an attorney. Prior to joining the elite Tulsa law firm in 2023, Thomas ran his own law firm for 18 years, managing client accounts, and performing all legal services both in and out of the courtroom.
Thomas excels at handling both family law and criminal law cases that can range from traffic to felony cases and all aspects of civil litigation. He also served as an associate municipal judge for the city of Sapulpa and represented the town of Mounds for 10 years.
Before embarking on a career in law, Thomas was the marketing director for Philbrook Museum and was the advertising director for Phillips and Johnson Advertising. It was during those stints that Thomas honed in on his communication skills and thought a transition into the field of law would be an ideal move.
“I gained some very valuable skills and experience working in marketing,” Decherd Thomas said. “My experience with the Philbrook Museum and my work in marketing really helped prepare me to work with people and achieve some goals, which I think is critical to being a good attorney. I need to be able to communicate with my clients so that we can construct the best legal gameplan moving forward.”
A native Oklahoman, Thomas grew up in the iconic Western Oklahoma town Altus. He attended Oklahoma State University and received his B.S. in Agricultural Communications. After a career in marketing, Thomas attended the University of Tulsa College of Law and received his Juris Doctorate in 2004.
As a dynamic attorney with a keen skillset, Thomas felt like Fry & Elder would be an optimal fit for him to showcase his abilities.
